Ellen Haiken usually needs one session of about an hour and a half with your dog in her Boston studio. Occasionally the pet might need a second session.
You need to accompany your dog and be prepared to stay. Bring a favorite toy, bone, or blanket or whatever else makes your animal comfortable. When your dog settles down, she captures the subject quickly and lightly with a preliminary oil sketch. She then takes reference snaps as the animal moves around as reference while the portrait is being completed. The finished painting usually takes about 1-2 weeks.

The paintings are usually life size. Small dogs start at $1450.00

NOTE: For a memorial portrait, Ellen Haiken will work from photographs, but it is very difficult, time consuming, and is priced accordingly.
